Regular hexagon geometry
If the side length is a, the flat-to-flat width is √3 × a and the vertex-to-vertex height is 2 × a. Centers of neighbouring cells in a pointy-top packing sit √3 × a horizontally and 1.5 × a vertically, with odd rows shifted by half a width. An 8 mm side therefore has a horizontal pitch of about 13.86 mm.
